What is CEREC technology?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. CEREC uses CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technology to take impressions quickly and to craft your crown right in the office in one appointment.
How does CEREC work?
The CEREC process starts with our team taking a digital impression of your tooth to make a mold. This is a much more comfortable and accurate process than the plaster impressions of the past!
Our cutting-edge CAD/CAM imaging technology will capture and duplicate the intricacies of each tooth, perfectly mimicking the unique characteristics of your teeth.
The 3D design is wirelessly transmitted to a milling machine that carves the restoration out of a ceramic block. Your ceramic crown is then ready for placement in just a few hours.
How do CEREC-made crowns look?
We can match variant shading and shape of your teeth, creating a flawless smile with no distracting metal or color variances.
Are CEREC crowns durable?
Yes! They will last up to 15 years when maintained with professional and at-home care, and they retain 100 percent of the strength of your original tooth.
Inlays and Onlays
The CEREC Omnicam can create custom porcelain tooth onlays and inlays using the same CAD/CAM technology.
Inlays or onlays are used when a tooth has decay or other trauma, but not enough to need a crown.
Inlays are similar to fillings, but the entire work lies within the cusps (bumps) on the chewing surface of the tooth. Onlays are more extensive than inlays, covering one or more cusps. Onlays are sometimes called partial crowns.
Both require an impression of your teeth, similar to crowns.
Direct inlays and onlays are made in our office and can be placed in one visit. The type of inlay or onlay used depends on how much sound tooth structure remains and on cosmetic considerations.
